Watermelon Cucumber Lemon Agua Fresca

Hola Mi Gente,

As we get further into summer, I become more and more thankful for all the summer fruits and vegetables that I take for granted throughout the rest of the year. One of the biggest of these is always watermelon. I usually roll my eyes when people call fruit “nature’s candy,” but I totally believe it’s true in the case of watermelon. It is such a refreshing treat, whether you’re at a BBQ or just snacking between meals.

One of the best parts of watermelon to me, is also that it is extremely hydrating! This year I made it a goal to stay hydrated and drink water. It’s been really wonderful to see the effects it’s had on my body. Probably the most miraculous of which is that I actually crave water nowadays, and it tastes good to me! But sometimes, your tastebuds do just need something a little different to stay hydrated. Enter Agua Frescas.

Agua Frescas are a kind of less concentrated juice. You still get the full fruit flavors, without the pulp of juice. The water content is higher, and the sugar is lower. I’ve shared my Orange Agua Fresca  recipe with you, and this agua fresca is another of my favorites. It reminds me of asada’s at my house growing up, and every glass tastes a little like home.

This particular agua fresca teams up with cucumber for extra hydration + a cooling effect, and a hint of lemon to add a little tartness and complexity to the flavor. It’s an extremely easy drink to whip up in your blender, and will keep your whole crowd hydrated and satisfied on these hot summer days.
